Theatrical Terms
Call—instead of bows. Performers would take a call, which consisted of standing to acknowledge the applause. They would only bow, which was seen as amateur, if royalty was present.

Board Meetings are open to the public. They are held the first and third Wednesday of every month at 6pm at the Broadway Events Center.

President

Vicki Sourdry

Vicki has been the owner and manager of Broadway Mini-Storage in Veneta since 1996. She is also a former employee of a Fortune 500 company, working in finance & inventory control in the hi-tech industry for 10 years. Before that she was a Purchasing Manager/Special Projects Manager for a Eugene manufacturing company for 17 years.

She is the Membership Chair as well as heading up some of the fundraising efforts for ART, Inc.. She wrote the ART, Inc. Business Plan and budget. She was the 2008 Volunteer of the Year for ART, Inc. at the Chamber of Commerce / Kiwanis Distinguished Service Awards. She has been on the ART, Inc. Board since 2005.

She was the Fern Ridge Library 2004 Volunteer of the Year. She is on the Board of the Friends of the Fern Ridge Library and serves as it's secretary. She is also Community Programs Committee chair, coordinating monthly programs of community interest. She has also chaired FRIENDfest, a library gala. She is a Former President of the Friends of the Fern Ridge Library.

She was a member Veneta Downtown Advisory Committee.

She is a published author.

She worked backstage and on-stage in summer productions raising money for the Hult Center in Eugene in 1960’s and 70’s, and participated in high school productions.

Vice President

John Burchell

John is a current member of the Franklin Ladies Aid Society (a ‘good time music’ band), and the owner of J B Hardy Company for the last 4 years.

He is the former owner of Silver Feather Promotion for 5 years, and the former manager of the Orlando Dinner Theatre. He has participated in Community Theater and was a member of the National Thespian Society, President of his High School Actors Club.

He has acted in several plays in the Fern Ridge area, including ART, Inc.'s "Lumberjacks and Wedding Belles" in 2007, in which he was the hermit. He has been on the ART, Inc. board since 2005.

Secretary

Jenny Ramsey

Jenny joined the board in 2009. She is deeply involved with after-school and summer programs for children. She was the Executive Director of the Explorers Club for many years, and now heads the Imagination Zone, which is a project of ART, Inc. It involves K-5 kids in educational and fun experiences with the arts, math, science, literacy, and environmental studies in a safe and nurturing atmosphere.

Treasurer

Elvin Edwards, Ph.D.

Elvin wholeheartedly supports the arts. He joined the ART, Inc. board in 2008. He has worked with theater in Sacramento and Roseville CA., including helping to start a little theater in Roseville and Music Circus in Sacramento.

He has produced and directed plays and has had several acting parts, including a bit part in a movie.

He is a registered Master Chef,and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America.

He is President of the Friends of the Fern Ridge Library.

Patrice A. Broome, Groundwaters Liaison

Pat is a co-editor of Groundwaters Magazine, which is fiscally sponsored by ART, Inc. She Is the Chair of the elected Library Board, and serves on the Library Foundation. She is on the board of the Friends of the Library. She joined the ART, Inc. board in 2009 as the Groundwaters Magazine representative.

She has been published in Groundwaters Magazine.

Marti Stevens-Byers, Artistic Director

   Marti is our Artistic Director, joining the board in 2009. She has been a professional theatrical director, teacher, and actress for 30+ years. She has taught:  Acting; Theatre Games/Improvisation; Directing; Dramaturgy; Musical Theatre Performance, Playwriting; Reader’s Theatre; Oral Interpretation; Speech; Theatrical Make-up; Creative Writing; Creative Non-Fiction Writing; Production, etc. at every level from pre-school creative dramatics through Community College, University, and professional, including:

  1. Foothill College, Los Altos CA: (taught, as above, in addition to 6 yrs, Co-Founder and Director, “Summerreppertory” Semi-Professional Rep. Co.)
  2. Eugene Opera Co. (w/Frank Graffeo): Stage/Creative director, Webfoot , World Premiere Collaborative w/ U. of O. Opera, Eugene Opera, and Springfield School Dist.

Paul Cass, Newsletter

Paul is a local writer. He entered the ART, Inc. play-writing contest in 2008 and won it with his play "Skunk!". He joined the board in 2009 and brought creative ideas and a freash approach to the board. He is a published author.

Sharon McClaughrey, Accountant

Sharon joined us in 2010 to be our accountant. She has extensive experience, serving with cities and school districts. We welcome her fiscal knowledge and support of the arts.

Founder Emeritus

Lawrence Larson

Larry is no longer an active member of the Board.

Larry spent sixteen years in broadcasting in California and Alaska, as DJ, news reporter, talk show host, Program Director, VP of Operations.

He won three statewide awards for writing, directing and editing commercials during one year stint as Creative Director for Studio 8, a video production company in Alaska.

He studied graphic design, illustration and fine arts at The Art Center, Los Angeles and Chouinard Institute Of The Arts, and was listed as one of the top ten Artists in the state of Alaska in the 70’s.

He was a ten year member of The Actor’s Workshop formed in Sacramento, California by Timothy Busfield, during which time he designed and built a 90 seat theater that is still in operation.

He is a current member of The Very Little Theatre of Eugene. He has been in several VLT productions. He also acted in the 2007 ART, Inc. production of "Lumberjacks and Wedding Belles" as Mayor Crook..

He was appointed to the Veneta Parks And Recreation Advisory Board. He represents ART Inc, on the Community Partnership Board. He was on the Veneta Downtown Advisory Board, studying the options of revitalizing downtown Veneta.
