Applegate Regional Theatre, Inc. (ART, Inc.) is a local, all volunteer, organization focused on building and supporting community theater in Veneta and the Fern Ridge area. We want to provide a comfortable, local venue for performing and visual arts.
There is great news!. The Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 2656, has signed a lease option to buy on the property at 5th and Broadway in downtown Veneta. They are allowing the front building to continue to be the Broadway Events Center (BEC). They have asked Applegate Regional Theatre, Inc. to manage the BEC. They are giving the theater part of the building to Applegate Regional Theatre, Inc. to use as we see fit, and they are going to share the Community Room with us! How cool is that !?!

An Evening of Words at the BEC (formerly Poetry Night)
The second Friday of every month is An Evening of Words at the BEC. From 7 to 9pm, people meet to read or listen to poetry and short prose - fiction or non-fiction. You can read your own original works. You can read old masters. You can read a friends work. Or you can just listen. All the readings are family friendly. It is a relaxing, laid back way to spend a Friday evening. All ages are welcome. And it is FREE!
Poetry Night was started in November 2007 as a quarterly event. It proved so popular that we made it monthly!
If you want more info, email us at info@art-inc.org.
Veneta Writers Group
A group of local writers get together twice a month to feed their muse. They do a writing exercise, learn about contests and conferences, and (if they want) they read their work to the others in the group. If feedback is requested, it is given in a constructive manner. They meet the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, from 6-8pm at the BEC. If you are interested, you can just show up, or email to vsourdry@hotmail.com. We ask a commitment to your writing and the group by promissing to come to all meetings (illness, vacation, emergencies are obviously excused!)
ART, Inc. Board meetings
The Board of Directors of ART, Inc. meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month. The public is welcome to come. We discuss ongoing events, future creative events and presentations, fundraising (always fundraising!), and anything else that affects our organization and the Broadway Events Center.
Moose Lodge Meetings
Moose Lodge 2656 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the BEC. You have to be a Moose member to attend. If you would like to join (or just find out more information about the Moose), contact David Shreve at dvd_shreve@yahoo.com. He is the Governor of the local lodge.

JUST CONCLUDED
A Most Excellent Storytelling Festival - October 16th & 17th
“A Most Excellent Storytelling Festival” will be happening October 16th and 17th at the Broadway Events Center (BEC) at 5th and Broadway in Veneta. It will be a weekend of enchantment and learning. Mark Lewis, a two time Emmy award winning storyteller will be the Master of Ceremonies of the weekend, as well as telling a few stories of his own.
Friday night at 7pm will be an incredible evening of storytelling. It will be for teens and up, including scary and more adult-themed tales.
Saturday is a family day, beginning at 3pm with workshops taught by professionals – storytelling, acting, costuming, and more. You will have a chance to attend two of them. Learn how to craft a story, to punctuate it with props or costumes, to act out the story with your voice and movement, and other tricks.
At 5pm, all the workshop participants will have the chance to try out what they have learned in front of a live audience during the “Story Swap”. Tell your story and listen to others. Or just come and listen to what others have gleaned from working with the professionals. You will be amazed and amused.
Dinner comes at 6pm, with your choice of sub sandwich, chips, and a drink. This event has a minimum donation of $5. There will also be entertainment during this time, keeping your brain involved while you are filling your tummy.
At 7pm, the professional storytellers will take over the stage again, entertaining you with family-friendly tales of all kinds. The stories will be suitable for any age, and understandable on many levels.
All admission is by donation. Suggested donation for individual is $5 per event or $20 for the weekend. For a family, $10 per event or $40 for the weekend. Kids under 12 are free with an adult admission. The ‘Story Swap’ is free for all. You must register for workshops, as they are limited in size. Call 935-3636 or email us at info@art-inc.org to reserve tickets or find out more information on the festival.
Storytellers from all around the area, are coming to Veneta to entertain us all. They will share their diverse lives and customs with us. Storytelling is an ancient tradition that carries with it the magic of information, imagination and principle. Enjoy the myths and folk tales and outrageous fabrications that will make you both laugh and cry. Learn some of the ‘tricks of the trade’ and start to build your own collection of tales and anecdotes. Join us for a ‘most excellent’ weekend.
